About the Scheme
What is it?
The Buy With Confidence scheme is an initiative by the Isle of Wight Council's Trading Standards Service to help businesses comply with the law while improving consumer protection through a partnership approach. It is open to any business on the Island.
Businesses signing up to their responsibilities set down in the rules to the Scheme will become 'Approved Members' of the Scheme. The scheme also includes a clear statement of the service the Council will provide to businesses. What's in it for businesses?- Independent recognition of your business standards.
- Benefical publicity.
- Proof of membership by Certificate for display on your premises and use of logo.
- Pre-entry vetting to ensure the credibility of the scheme and that high standards are maintained.
- Your company's name on a list held by the Council to recommend to consumers.
- A place on the 'Buy With Confidence' website with a 'hot link' to your own site for potential customers.
- Increased consumer confidence and reduced complaints.
- A better relationship with regulators based on co-operation rather than enforcement.
- A named contact for your business within the Trading Standards Service.
- Information on new legislation, trade scams etc
Who's running it?The Scheme will be run by the Trading Standards Service, a part of the Isle of Wight Council. Limitations of the SchemeWe cannot guarantee the financial standing of members nor their health and safety procedures. Similarly we cannot be sure that their work will never give rise to complaint, but should this be the case, any difficulties will be dealt with fairly. What will it cost?There is no fee for the scheme but if you are required to have Criminal Convictions checks carried out this will cost £23 per check. How does a business apply? If you are interested in joining the Scheme it is important that you read the requirements set out in the conditions document.
